2D GC is just another approach to achieve polar separation.
Good polar compound separation can already be achieved by using a moderately rated polar column (DB-5 or DB-17) and GCMS analysis (1D).
2D GC (GCxGC) analysis emphasizes the ability to separate information based on weight and polarity.
