Salinity measured by conductivity is an estimation method whereby the sample conductivity is compared to the ‘practical salinity scale’ to determine an estimated salinity value in g/L. This is done via conductivity probe or meter.
Calculated maximum salinity is an alternate estimation method using the dissolved sodium and dissolved chloride values, as determined by their respective methods. It determines the maximum possible concentration of sodium chloride that could have been dissolved in the sample based on the stoichometrically limiting value between these two parameters. Reported in mg/L (of NaCl).
