How long after sampling should I send samples to the lab?

Samples should be packaged and sent to the receiving laboratory on the day of sampling to ensure analytical hold times are met.

If you are submitting samples for microbial or bacteria analysis, it is best to avoid sampling on Fridays (unless you can deliver the samples by noon on that day). Samples should be returned within 24hrs from the time of sampling to ensure bacterial analysis hold times are met.

Store and cool samples so that they arrive at the laboratory between 4 and 10oC (for most locations, 2-8°C for drinking water samples in BC)
