PFAS - Containers and Hold Time

Modified on: Tue, 7 May, 2019 at 9:44 AM

Waters

- Samples should be collected in wide mouth (HDPE) bottles fitted with an unlined (no Teflon) polypropylene screw cap.

- 125mL HDPE.

Please submit 2 x 125mL if possible.  (absolute minimum of 125 mL).  Additional volume is required if MS/MSD is requested.  (Additional 125mL per QC sample)

The sample hold time is 14 days  with proper storage (1-6C, minimum exposure to light).

If sample source is from a drinking water supply, containers should be Trizma preserved.

Soil and Tissue

- Samples should be collected in (HDPE) wide mouth bottles and fitted with an unlined (no Teflon) polypropylene screw cap.

- A minimum of 50 g of sample is required.

- In the absence of regulated sample hold time, Bureau Veritas Laboratories adheres to a 28 day hold time for solids with proper storage (1-6C, minimum exposure to light).

All containers intended for use for PFAS sample collection require batch proofing due to the ubiquitous nature of PFAS compounds in many modern materials.  Similarly with any water used for blank preparation.  Shelf life of sampling containers kept in PFAS free storage is up to 12 months.
