When do I filter for total vs dissolved?

Filtration of water samples should only be employed when the analysis is required to be reflective of dissolved concentrations only, such as sampling for groundwater, and / or when the regulation requires it.

Sampling for surface or drinking water should always be performed without filtration, as this data needs to be reflective of a total concentration.
